2A Track and Field: W.F. West’s Seth Hoff Wins Three Events

W.F. West’s Seth Hoff continued his blazing start to the track and field season, capturing three events (high jump, long jump and javelin) during the Bearcats’ home meet on Wednesday.

“We had a long list of PR’s today, which I am very pleased with for meet No. 2 of this season,” W.F. West coach Autumn Ledgerwood said.

W.F. West won the boys match with 91 points, while Black Hills was second with 52 and Rochester third with 46. On the girls side, W.F. West won with 121 points, Black Hills was second with 56 and Rochester third with 10.

Boys

Andrew Scheer won the 800-meter in a time of 2:16.08. Senior Connor Russell won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.65 and the 300-meter hurdles in 42.32. 

“Andrew Scheer set three new personal bests in the 800, 1600 and high jump,” Ledgerwood said. “He really showed some great competitiveness today.”

The Bearcats’ 4x100-meter relay of Charles Mallonee, Clayton Jewell, Darren Gray and Ryan Hirte won in a time of 47.12. The 4x400-meter relay of Connor Russell, Bryan Bach, Ryan Hirte and Charles Mallonee won in 3:51.41.

The Bearcats swept the top-three spots in the javelin with Seth Hoff taking first (156-07), Lucas Hoff placed second (119-03) and Darren Gray was third (114-08).

Hoff also won the high jump (5-10) and the long jump (19-03.5). Gannon Soukup won the pole vault (7-06) and Nick Forseyth won the triple jump (33-11.75).



Rochester

Junior speedster Talon Betts easily won the 100-meter dash in 11.19, winning by nearly half a second. Betts also won the 400-meter dash by nearly two seconds with a time of 55.24.

Coach Holman says “Betts set a personal record on the 100 and 400. From what I can tell, he is currently ranked 1st in the state for the 100.”

“Everything went pretty well,” Rochester coach Troy Holman said. “As well as it can go with this short season. Everything has been on turbo mode. It’s just nice to see the kids competing again.”

Girls

Hoyda Starr won the 100-meter dash in a personal record of 14.10. Audrey Toynbee won the 100-meter dash in 29.35. Lydia Koenig won the 400-meter dash in 1:10.26. Elaina Koenig won the 800-meter run in 2:40.52. Kelly Robertson won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 52.8.

The Bearcats’ 4x100-meter relay of Audrey Toynbee, Amelia Etue, Kelly Robertson and Elizabeth Patana won in 54.73. The 4x200-relay of Audrey Toynbee, Anne Van Der Pluijm, Amelia Etue and Elizabeth Patana won in 1:59.82. And the 4x400-meter relay of Amelia Etue, Elaina Koenig, Elizabeth Patana and Kelly Robertson won in 4:44.54.

Brianna Powe won the discus with a throw of 91-11. Kyla McCallum won the javelin with a toss of 104-01. Maliyah Lockwood took the high jump with a leap of 4-06 and the triple jump (30-01). Sadie Dahlin captured the pole vault with a jump of 6-06.
