2A Softball: Bearcats 10-Run East Valley in Quarterfinals

SELAH — The Bearcats scored seven runs in the third inning to pull away from East Valley (Yakima), for a 10-0 six-inning win in State 2A Softball Tournament quarterfinal action here Friday.

W.F. West entered the third inning leading 1-0, after a solo home run by Lexie Strasser in the bottom of the second.

Designated hitter Kim Frazier led off the inning with a single, and the next five Bearcat batters reached base. Kyndra Haller and Kindra Davis hit consecutive RBI singles, and Roni Braun hit a two-run single, with a third runner scoring on an East Valley error. Cassidy Grandorff also had a one-run single, and an RBI triple from Frazier — on her second hit of the inning — made it 8-0.

W.F. West totaled eight hits in the inning.

The Bearcats scored their ninth and tenth runs on errors, the latter ending the game on a mercy ruling in the sixth.

Frazier was one of four Bearcats with two hits. Kassiday Grandorff was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Braun and OJ Dean also had multiple hits.

“It was nice to see us come back from our first game where we didn’t play our best,” W.F. West coach Mike Keen said. “Kim Frazier gets her chance and she gets a triple with two hits. … People up and down the lineup are hitting the ball.”

Strasser threw a two-hit shutout for W.F. West, with six strikeouts and no walks. The defending State 2A champion Bearcats (24-0) will take on Fife at 10 a.m. today in the semifinals.

Braun Home Run Breaks Deadlock for Bearcats

SELAH — Roni Braun’s three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie, and W.F. West beat Bear Creek/Forest Ridge 4-1 in the first round of the State 2A tournament here Friday.

The Bearcats and Ravens both scored one run in the first inning and were deadlocked for the next five.

OJ Dean led-off W.F. West with a home run. Kyndra Haller followed with a single, but Bear Creek/Forest Ridge pitcher Colleen Campbell retired the next three Bearcat batters to keep the game level.

Campbell finished with nine strikeouts and a walk.

Ashlee Vadala pitched a complete game for W.F. West, also striking out nine and walking one. On offense, Vadala had three hits in three at-bats with a double.

Kindra Davis and Lexie Strasser had sixth-inning singles for the Bearcats, and scored on Braun’s homer.

The Ravens scored in the top of the first on an RBI single by catcher Molly Anderson.
