The Bearcats may have been coming off of their first league loss since 2012, but it didn’t seem to bother them Friday night.

W.F. West heated up in the fourth quarter and rallied past Columbia River, 51-47, in nonleague girls hoops action in Chehalis.

Shasta Lofgren scored 18 points with six steals, Julia Johnson tallied 16 and the Bearcats went 9 of 20 from behind the 3-point arc.

Columbia River, an 8-8 team from the 3A classification, led 38-33 going into the fourth quarter, before the Bearcats poured in 18 points to close out the win.

Erika Brumfield added 4 points, with eight rebounds and five blocked shots, and W.F. West had 14 steals as a team.

The Bearcats (12-4, 2-1 Evergreen 2A Conference play) will play at Prairie on Tuesday before returning to EvCo action.

Tigers Shut Down Trappers

VANCOUVER — Centralia held nonleague foe Fort Vancouver to just 4 points in the first quarter en route to a 63-27 victory here on Friday night in nonleague girls hoops action.

Madi Crews led the Tigers to their 10th win of the season with 19 points.

“Defensively, I felt we played good team defense when we put everybody in,” Centralia coach Doug Ashmore said. “Everybody is doing a good job with our system, communicating and doing the little things right.”

The Tigers’ scoring was balanced as Maddie Fast notched 13 points and Alyx Fast had 11 points.

“Offensively we got a lot of people shots and I was really happy Maddie Fast came up big and scored 13,” Ashmore said. “It was good to see the balance there.”

Centralia (10-6, 1-2 league) plays at nonleague foe Kelso on Monday.
