20th district lawmakers comfortably ahead in reelection bids

The 20th legislative district appears to have reelected its legislators by wide margins on Tuesday night.

Two — Rep. Ed Orcutt and Sen. John Braun — did not face a challenger in either the August primary or general election, while Rep. Peter Abbarno is comfortably ahead in initial results.

Abbarno earned 87.7% of the vote, or 51,500 votes, while Melvin Kaleolani Apana, who identifies as a Culture Republican, received 9.6%, or 5,725 votes.

Both Orcutt and Braun earned 96% of the vote, while 4% of voters wrote in a different candidate. Braun received 52,235 votes, while Orcutt received 50,243 votes.



The Lewis County Auditor’s Office counted a total of 37,952 ballots on election night, with an estimated 5,000 ballots left to count. The next count will be released Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Lewis County had a 71.64% participation rate as of 6:30 p.m. on election night, with 57,441 registered voters and 41,152 ballots returned, according to information released by the Washington Secretary of State. Of the returned ballots, 40,637 had been accepted and 515 had been challenged.

Final results will be certified by the Washington Secretary of State on Dec. 5
