1B Baseball: Acorns Sweep Wolfpack

Posted

OAKVILLE — The Acorns got some big RBIs from freshman Adrian Brown in the first game and some solid pitching by Gary Ortivez III in the second in a 1B baseball doubleheader sweep of Twin Valley here on Monday, by scores of 10-8 and 11-1.

“Overall in the first game, mental errors hurt us but we still hit the ball and that’s what helped us in the end,” Oakville coach Marvin Youckton said.

Trailing 7-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Acorns notched a 3-run rally but gave it back up with a Twin Valley run in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the frame, the Wolfpack walked a batter to get to Brown, who responded by hitting the ball down the line to bring in the tying and winning runs. Brown finished game 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs, accounting for his first hits of the season.

Ray Lopez started the game on the mound, striking out eight while going five innings before Alex Youckton came in the sixth inning and struck out the side in the seventh. Lopez was also 2 for 3 at the plate, while Youckton was 2 for 4.

The Acorns were more dominant in the second game, as starting pitcher Ortivez held Twin Valley to one hit in an 11-1 victory. Youckton went 2 for 2 while Sean Adams was 1 for 3 with a walkoff hit that engaged the 10-run rule.

“Gary came in and really threw a good game. I was impressed with him,” Youckton said.

Miguel Sanchez also had a hit in Oakville’s 3-run rally in the fifth inning.

The Acorns (10-0, 4-0 league) will play Naselle in a doubleheader either today or Wednesday, depending on weather.
