Tenino received five goals from five different players to grab its first win of the season, a 5-2 victory over Hoquiam, at home on Monday.
“Definitely happy with the performance,” Tenino coach Kevin Schultz said “We played well as a team. Hoquiam didn’t have any serious opportunities to score until we made subs.”
Chris Ramez opened the scoring in the 25th minute of a direct corner kick. Triston Whitaker followed that up with a rebound goal off a Zack Russell shot in the 38th minute to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead at the half.
Russell found the back of the net with an unassisted goal in the 54th minute, followed by Schultz’ favorite goal of the night, a back-heel finish by Salvador Ontiveros. The Grizzlies scored back-to-back goals in the 69th and 70th minute with Tenino’s reserves in before Anthony Levi scored the Beavers’ final goal in the 79th minute. Tenino outshot Hoquiam 12-4 on the night.
“Defensively, our whole back four played well,” Schultz said. “All these kids keep getting better every game.”
Tenino (1-2) travels to Raymond on Wednesday to take on Raymond-South Bend.
