A recent graduate of West Linn High School was killed Wednesday morning in a workplace accident at an Oregon City construction site, according to the victim’s family.
Lucas Gray, 18, was hit by a forklift and died at the scene, his mother, Catherine Gray, said.
“It’s a mother’s worst fear,” Catherine Gray said. “He was a leader in the community, a wrestler [on the school team], a Christian, a great man and just a super light, wonderful child.”
Lucas Gray, who had graduated from high school in June, only had two days left on the job, his mother said. He planned to attend the University of Utah. Catherine Gray said he had an entrepreneurial spirit and had hoped to one day start his own business.
He was also devoted to his faith, his mother added.
“He was planning to just use his life to bless others and make our world a better place,” Catherine Gray said. “He was so funny and just so charismatic. Everybody loved him.”
A vigil was held at West Linn High School Wednesday night to honor Gray, Catherine Gray said. An email sent by the school to families said the loss would be “deeply felt by many.”
“Lucas was a loved and active member of our school community,” the email said.
