A 17-year-old who fell down a 100-foot embankment while hiking with his family near Warrendale was rescued by the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office search-and-rescue team.

The Bureau of Emergency Communications received a call Monday at about 6 p.m. that a teenager had fallen in the John Yeon State Scenic Corridor and sustained significant injuries.

The teen had fallen off the main trail onto rough terrain around McCord Creek, police said.

Rescuers used rope systems and a basket to get the teen to safety. Several other agencies assisted the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

More than a dozen volunteers and rescue workers carried the injured teenager out of the wilderness to the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail, police said.

The teen was brought to incident command by 10:30 p.m. and transported first by ambulance, then by Life Flight, to a hospital for treatment, where he remained Tuesday.
