$100K Warrant Issued for Winlock Man Accused of Putting Meth on a Muffin, Offering It to Drug Court Participant

A $100,000 arrest warrant has been issued for a Winlock man participating in Lewis County Drug Court who allegedly put methamphetamine on a muffin and tried to feed it to another Drug Court participant in May.

Drug Court administrators reported the incident to the Chehalis Police Department on May 6 after the alleged victim reported the incident to the Drug Court manager.

The defendant, Jacob Kennedy, 23, is accused of sprinkling methamphetamine on a chocolate muffin and trying to get the victim to eat it, according to court documents. Two other Drug Court participants reportedly observed the incident.

Kennedy, who is out of custody, was issued a summons notice in August for a preliminary hearing in Lewis County Superior Court scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Kennedy failed to appear for that hearing, prompting a Lewis County Superior Court judge to issue the warrant for Kennedy’s arrest on Wednesday.

Lewis County Drug Court allows those faced with certain drug-related felony convictions the option to enroll in a court-supervised, long-term rehabilitation program with the promise that their charges will be formally dismissed upon graduation.

The program seeks to help those arrested for drug-related crimes in their journey toward recovery.

Kennedy allegedly admitted during a conference call with the victim and the Drug Court manager to putting methamphetamine on the muffin, according to court documents.

The Chehalis Police Department secured the “suspect muffin” as evidence and sent a sample “of what was thought to be methamphetamine from the chocolate muffin” to a crime lab for testing.

A report sent from the crime lab on June 28 confirmed the substance taken from the muffin was indeed methamphetamine, according to court documents.

Kennedy was charged in August with one count each of delivering methamphetamine and placing poison in food, drinks or water. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
