A 38-year-old man died and a 13-year-old boy was injured in an ATV crash at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area near Reedsport on Sunday, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.
A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station North Bend responded to the all-terrain-vehicle accident and found the man unconscious and the boy “with multiple extremity fractures,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.
The man was lifted into the hovering helicopter and rushed to Bay Area Hospital, where he later died.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the rider who succumbed to his injuries,” Coast Guard Lt. Dan Fiorvanti said.
The boy was taken to the hospital by ambulance. His current condition is not known.
