W.F. West scored the only goal of the match to earn a 1-0 win against Centralia in an Evergreen 2A Conference girls soccer game in Chehalis on Tuesday.

The Bearcats scored in the 32nd minute on a throw in set piece, with Cameron Sheets finding the back of the net on an assist by Madi Mencke.

W.F. West goalkeeper Aeryn Elder made three saves in the clean sheet. Centralia goalkeeper Kupria Lapierre made 14 saves for the Tigers.

“Our girls played really well tonight. We kept possession in our offensive half for 75 percent of the game. We struggled to finish tonight. Their keeper had some great saves,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “We struggled to hit the target. Another dozen shots off target, Centralia did a really good job of defending and keeping us outside the box and making it tough to find good looks on goal. We couldn’t find the back of the net as much as we would like.”

Centralia coach Henry Gallanger also commended the play of Lapierre in net, noting it was her first time ever playing goalkeeper.

“Kupria Lapierre had to step in and play goalkeeper at the last minute. She did an amazing job playing a position she’s never played. Makiah Harris had a decent game on the back line as far as getting things under control,” Gallanger said.

W.F. West (8-2-1, 3-2) travels to Tumwater on Thursday while Centralia (1-9, 1-4) hosts Aberdeen on Thursday in an EvCo game.

Dell went on to score another goal in the 72nd minute with an assist from Megan Letts and a second assist from Grace Vestal.

“I was proud of my team’s effort,” said Tenino coach Kevin Schultz. “I think this is the first time we’ve beat Montesano since 2016 so I think that was a big win for them tonight.”

Bobcats Shut Out Warriors

ABERDEEN — Rochester was unable to out-manuever the Bobcats here on Tuesday as the home team claimed a 3-0 win in Evergreen 2A Conference girls soccer play.

Aberdeen wasted little time asserting themselves in the contest as Emmy Walsh notched a goal for the home team less than a minute into the game.

“They scored in the first 50 seconds and then we held them until the 70th minute before we gave up two with just a couple of mistakes in the box,” said Rochester coach Robert McFadden.

Elizabeth Martinez broke that standoff with a goal in the 70th minute while Madison Gore finished off the scoring with a goal in the 72nd minute.

“It was mostly a defensive battle for us,” added McFadden. “We purposely ran with a defensive lineup today intending to have a defensive game with a few counter attacks.”

Aberdeen got up eight on target shots on the night while Rochester managed to get up just one shot attempt.

McFadden pointed out the play of his midfielders, especially Amerika Jones and Suffina Ahmath, for keeping the Bobcats more or less in check all night.

“Our midfield was great. They really kept the attack from even getting to the defensive line throughout the game,” said McFadden. “Our keeper also did a phenomenal game, Madi Bates. She did a great job all the way through and really controlled the net.”

Rochester (1-8-1) will host Black Hills on Thursday.
