Centralia, Morton Police Departments Participate in National Drug Take Back Day

In honor of National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, the Centralia and Morton Police Departments will allow Lewis County residents to safely dispose of unwanted prescriptions, according to a news release from Lewis County Public Health and Social Services. 

The Centralia Police Department will accept unused, outdated, and unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Centralia City Hall at 118 Maple St.

In Morton, medications can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the police department at 260 Main St. 

“National Drug Take Back Day in Centralia and Morton is being sponsored by the city police departments, the Centralia Prevention Coalition, and the Morton UP! Coalition,” according to the news release.  “According to information provided by the coalitions, the 2018 National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs.”

Most misused drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from their medicine cabinets. 



The Centralia event will feature sandwiches, cookies and coffee.The Morton event will feature free hotdogs provided by Morton police, and have a variety of vendors and service providers there.

Expired, unused or unwanted medication can be disposed of at drop off locations year-round at the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, the Centralia Police Department, Morton Police Department, Toledo City Hall and Winlock City Hall.
