Providence, Medical Reserve Corps Provide STP Services

Providence Centralia Hospital and the Lewis County Medical Reserve Corps Unit 1760 provided services at a medical tent on July 15 and 16 for the annual STP. This is the third year the two organizations have teamed up to serve the riders and our community.

During the 11 hour operational period on Saturday and three hours on Sunday, we served 619 riders (7.6 percent of registered riders). Of those, 176 received medical assessments and treatments for a variety of complaints such as scrapes and soreness. The remaining 443 were provided with self-care items such as pain medication and sunscreen. Riverside Fire Authority once again offered use of its special-event BLS unit for transporting patients to the off-campus ambulance rendezvous point or responding to medical emergencies on campus. No patients required ambulance transport in 2017. The unit was used once to bring a rider to the medical aid station who could not make it on her own.

The medial tent (and lost and found station) was coordinated by Ed Mund, MRC Unit 1760 coordinator; and Corey Nygaard, emergency preparedness coordinator for Providence Centralia.
