Cleric with diverse background to lead Centralia church

Calvary Assembly

Sunday, Calvary Assembly of God, Centralia, will welcome its new pastor, the Rev. Bruce Sullenger, and his wife, Tami, and sons, Sean, Benjamin and Aaron.

Sullenger has been in full-time ministry since 1994. In addition to serving as a pastor, he has been administrator of a 150-child care center with a staff of 35, has served as a volunteer medic and firefighter, and has led a group from several churches on missionary trips to South America.

Prior to becoming a minister, Sullenger worked in various fields including truck driving and saw milling. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Following the 10:45 a.m. service, a welcome luncheon will be served. All may attend.

Calvary Assembly, with a big white cross on top, is located at the corner of Main and Gold streets.

Toledo Presbyterian Church

Toledo Presbyterian Church's Men's Fellowship and Bible study meets from 8 to 10 a.m. today, beginning with breakfast at the Toledo Senior Center ($3) and moving on to the church at 9 a.m. for Bible study on the book of Romans. All men may attend.

Sunday worship begins at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Steve Klump will be recognized for 15 years of leadership with a coffee hour following the worship service.

Church World Service Blanket Sundays will be this Sunday, as well as Oct. 19 and 26. Women meet at the church each Tuesday through October to work on bazaar items. All women may attend. Those who attend are to bring a sandwich. Coffee will be provided.

Westminster Presbyterian

The Rev. Ralph Carr will lead the 8 and 10:15 a.m. worship services Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Westminster Bells will provide music.

Carr will begin a new sermon series about "Jesus' Purposes for the Church." A celebration of the congregation's 148th anniversary will be held, honoring those who have been members for five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 40 and 50 years.

An all-church potluck will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Whitworth Hall, followed by a presentation from Hank and Jenny Kirk and Cindy and James Hill about their recent mission trips to Malawi.

Carr will speak at "A New Creation," a contemporary service of celebration and praise, at 6 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary.

Grace United Methodist

Grace United Methodist Church in Vader will host its annual homecoming and hymn-singing at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. A potluck will follow the service. All may attend.

Grace United Methodist Church has installed the National Historic Record plaque on a large rock in front of the church, and will dedicate it during or after the service, depending on the weather.

Salkum Community

Salkum Community Church of the Brethren will host Tea and Praise at 10 a.m. Monday. Guest Kristina Butterton will speak about her experiences as an ambassador with the People to People program.

Butterton traveled to Europe learning customs and cultures in different countries. Butterton is the daughter of Don and Melody Butterton of Onalaska. Melody Butterton will provide music for the program. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall. All women in the community may attend.

Jack Quinn will be the speaker at the 10:50 a.m. Sunday worship service. Mary Quinn will assist as worship leader. A world mission offering "Living Letters of Love" will be offered during worship services. The Church of the Brethren sponsors missionaries in the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, Brazil, Sudan and other countries as the need arises.

Rochester United Methodist

Rochester United Methodist Church will host an auction and baked potato feed today. The baked potato feed will begin at 5 p.m., and the auction will start at 6 p.m. The church is located at 18206 Corvallis St. in Rochester, one block north of U.S. Highway 12. For information, telephone 273-5000.

Central Bible

All may hear Dave and Patti Olson as they share about their ministry during the morning worship time at Central Bible Evangelical Free Church, Centralia.

The Olsons have served in Bolivia, helping to provide technical assistance to Trans World Radio. Dave Olson received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alaska in 1972 and is a registered professional engineer. Patti Olson received a master's degree in education from Central Washington University in 1996.

The Rev. John L. Tomei will give a sermon, "They Violated Their Own Law," during the 10:50 a.m. service Sunday. This is also Soup Sunday. Visitors may attend.

Central Bible Evangelical Free Church will hold a fall rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18. Lunch will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost of the lunch is $3 per person. Proceeds will be used to help send children to summer camp.

St. Mary's Catholic

Masses at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centralia will be at 5 p.m. today and at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Reconciliation will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. today in the church.

Daily Masses this week will be at 9 a.m. Monday and Wednesday. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament follows the Monday Mass until 5 p.m. The widows group will attend the Wednesday Mass and follow with coffee at McDonald's.

Eucharistic ministers' training classes will be held at 10 a.m. today in the church.

The Religious Education Commission will meet in the Activity Center following the Sunday Mass, and a catechetical certification class will be held from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Family Support Group for Service Personnel will meet at 7 p.m. in the Activity Center.

Immanuel Lutheran

Sunday, the Rev. Skip Grover will preach a sermon titled "What is Your Excuse?" about the third and fourth chapters of Exodus at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services Sunday at Chehalis First Baptist Church.

During the 6 p.m. Sunday service, the church is studying a video series titled "Wrestling With Angels." This week's episode is titled "Doubt" by Madeleine L'Engle, "How Can I Question and Still Believe?"

Life Center

All may join with Life Center Sunday as the church welcomes guest speakers Danny and Giselle Bonilla, clerics from Manhattan, New York. Services are at 9 and 11 a.m.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, all may join with Life Center for the first of several "Waiting on God" services planned for the coming year. This Sunday, guests will be Scott and Lori Schang, clerics from Woodland, and Greg and Lisa Buckiewicz, clerics from Veracruz, Mexico.

The Humanities Team facilitated by Bill and Terri Lane meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Garden Room. The group is continuing the compact discs from the Neil Walsh seminar in Wilsonville.

The Rev. Paul McQueen will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship service at the Community Presbyterian Church of Onalaska. The choir's anthem will be "Hallelujah for the Cross!" Bethel Church



As Bethel Church of the Assemblies of God, Napavine, begins the "40 Days of Purpose" series, the Rev. Don Detrick will give the sermon "What On Earth Am I Here For?" in the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday services.

There will not be a Sunday evening service at the church, but the home friendship groups will meet in homes throughout the community from 5 to 7 p.m.

A study series for men is offered at 6:30 p.m. Mondays and at 6 a.m. Tuesdays, beginning this week.

Singing Christmas Tree rehearsals are held at 7 p.m. Tuesdays.

The 11 a.m. Sunday service at Chehalis United Methodist Church will be conducted by the Rev. Jim Simpson. There will be music by the Chancel Choir.

Training for small-group leaders will begin after church Sunday. There will be a pizza lunch, and the training is open to all. The training will be for 1½ hours for six weeks. Plans are for the sessions to be taped for those who cannot attend all six sessions.

The Methodiners will meet at 6 p.m. Monday for a potluck dinner followed by a craft experience led by Margaret, Ken and Zoe Hotsko and Jean Durr. All may attend.

Chehalis Valley Baptist

The Rev. Ralph E. Wood of Chehalis Valley Baptist Church is about to finish the study of the book of Romans. All may hear his summary at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.

Mark Anders will lead a 10 a.m. Bible class for adults using material from the book "Major Bible Themes."
