Alta ‘June’ Wachter-Busse

Alta “June” Wachter-Busse, Evaline, will be celebrating her 90th birthday with a celebration hosted by her family at noon Saturday, June 3, at Fort Borst Park Kitchen 1, Centralia.

Born in Centralia on June 3, 1927, Wachter-Busse has been a lifetime resident of Lewis County, except for a brief stay in Tennessee while her husband was in the service during World War II.

She attended Centralia elementary schools, Centralia High School and Centralia College. She married Walter K. Wachter on Dec. 15, 1944. He died in 1992. She then married Bill Busse on May 30, 2009.

Wachter-Busse served as a U.S. Postal Service carrier for the Winlock Post Office from 1965 to 1993.

She is a seventh-degree Grange member with 70 years of membership at Hope Grange. She is a long-time bowler and is currently secretary of the Monday and Friday senior leagues at Fairway Lanes. She also served several years as secretary of the Lewis County Women’s Bowling Association.



Wachter-Busse has volunteered at Providence Hospital Centralia for more than 20 years and contributed over 4,000 hours of service.

She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winlock, the Montesano Moose Lodge Auxiliary, the Castle Rock Eagles Auxiliary and the Winlock American Legion Auxiliary, and is a past Lewis County Master Gardener.

Her children and spouses are Kathleen (Ronald) Heikkila, Evaline; Wayne (Sue) Wachter, Centralia; Kris (Larry) Carroll, Toledo; Ted Wachter, Winlock; Karen (Troy) Robey, Battle Ground; and Kari (Larry) Inman, Centralia

Wachter-Busse requests that no gifts be brought to the birthday celebration. However, she and her family will welcome donations to the family scholarship for Evaline students. Donations in any amount may be delivered or mailed directly to the Winlock branch of Timberland Bank at P.O. Box 368, Winlock WA 98596.

Donations should be clearly marked and checks made out to the “Walter K. Wachter Memorial Scholarship for Evaline Students.” Former Evaline students may obtain an application for the annual scholarship at Evaline School.
