Head-On Collision Depicted During Mossyrock High School Safety Week

Posted

The week of April 20-24 was school safety week at Mossyrock High School. The Washington State Patrol Morton Detachment helped us kick the week off with a safety assembly with the focus on Target Zero priorities.

Following that  assembly the Associated Student Body worked with the Washington State Patrol Morton detachment and the Morton/Mossyrock police chief to emphasize wearing seatbelts, driving the speed limit and distracted driving each morning before school and each day after school.

Students and families in the school district were given rewards if they were doing the right thing and an education from an officer if they were not.

The culminating event was on April 24 with the mock crash.  The ASB put together a video of a party scene that concluded with an accident where the driver had been drinking and hit another car head-on.

Students then moved to the football field, where they viewed the actual crash scene that law enforcement and emergency personnel portrayed.

From there students returned to the gymnasium to view a mock funeral and trial.

Many resources in Lewis County came together to make this safety week happen.  It was a phenomenal event — very powerful and impactful.
