Bill and Elaine Furrer

Bill and Elaine Furrer, Centralia, will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary Friday.

The Furrers were married July 4, 1944, at the Methodist church located at the corner of Pearl and Pine streets in Centralia.

Bill came to Centralia from Lincoln, Nebraska, with his parents in 1937. Elaine was born in Centralia in 1922. Both are graduates of Centralia High School.

Bill joined the Navy in November 1940 and is a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He spent most of the war years in the Pacific, except for three months at           Sand Point, Seattle, in 1942.

The couple had duty in seven states while he was in the Navy. They also had a year and half in Japan during the Korean War. Elaine and their two girls joined Bill in Japan for 14 months. They went to Japan aboard a troop ship, leaving Seattle and sailing to Yokohama by way of Adak, Alaska. The trip took 16 days.

Bill and Elaine have two daughters, Margaret Elaine (Margie) Lantz, Vancouver, Washington, and Laurel Lee (Laurie) Gibbs, San Antonio, Texas. They also have five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Furrers attend Mountain View Baptist Church in Centralia.

Dennis and Linda Mickelsen



Dennis and Linda (Larson) Mickelsen, Moses Lake and formerly of Winlock, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday in Ephrata.

The Mickelsens were married June 27, 1964, in Centralia.

Linda is a retired hairdresser and homemaker. Dennis is a farmer and business owner. 

The couple enjoy attending events of their grandchildren, traveling and gardening. Linda enjoys quilting.

In celebration of their 50th anniversary, the Mickelsens took a trip to Hawaii in January.

Their children and spouses are Kelly (Brendan) Rorem, Mercer Island; Denny and Wendy (Tornow) Mickelsen, Moses Lake; and Aaron and Jennifer (Heggem) Mickelsen, Moses Lake.

The Mickelsens have nine grandchildren.
