WACA bringing comedian Adam Ray to Chehalis on Feb. 2

Comedian Adam Ray has shared the silver screen with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Ryan Gosling and Margo Robbie.

And on Friday, Feb. 2, he’ll take the stage at McFiler’s Chehalis Theater for one night of laughs in the Mint City.

The show is a fundraiser for the Washington Association of Culture and Art (wacultureandart.com), a local nonprofit that builds partnerships with school districts to increase access to art programs.

WACA finalized its nonprofit status last fall and is planning a series of fundraisers, according to Cameron McGee, WACA’s executive director and one of the group’s founders.

“Most of them are performances of some sort, whether it’s dance, comedy or music,” McGee said. “Our goal is to elevate the arts in the community, by bringing in larger names than we’ve had in a long time into the community — making it a touring stop for musicians, speakers, all those things.”

More importantly, the shows will support WACA’s actual mission. The organization wants to fund educators specializing in their given artistic discipline to work with local schools — teaching in several districts in the same day to maximize their impact.

Ray was actually the first headliner Hub Comedy founder Gabe Botten booked, back in 2014 for a show at the Centralia Fox Theatre. When McGee approached Botten about a show, the promoter had a quick idea.

“I’ve been trying for years and years to get him back,” Botten joked. “This was my chance to get Adam to reply to my messages.”

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the event, with the action beginning at 8 p.m. Olympia comedian Sam Miller is scheduled to open.

Ray, 41, hails from Seattle. He most recently appeared in this summer’s blockbuster hit — and eight-time Oscar nominee — “Barbie,” and previously appeared in Melissa McCarthy comedies “The Heat” and “Spy.”

He’s also acted in HBO programs “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Hacks,” “Silicon Valley” and “Ballers.” His YouTube channel, adamraycomedy, has over 100,000 subscribers.

Tickets are $30 for general admission and $40 for seats in the theater mezzanine.
