The Mossyrock boys basketball team toppled Oakville on the road on Tuesday, taking down the Acorns 56-29 in a 1B District 4 semifinal to clinch a state tournament bid and a spot in the district title game.
“It was a big game with a big reward and our boys came through in a big way,” Mossyrock assistant coach Kelly Ross said. “We are really proud of our guys and how they showed up in a hostile atmosphere.”
It was all Mossyrock early, as the Vikings (15-6, 11-2 1A CVL) got out to a 15-5 lead, but the Acorns (15-5, 8-0 1A Coastal) trimmed the lead to six at halftime.
The second half was much like the first quarter, however, as Mossyrock took over and ran away with it, outscoring Oakville 33-12 in the second half.
Hunter Isom led the Vikings with a 17-point, 17-rebound double-double, while Tyce Vigre added 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Zack Munoz led the Vikings with nine steals, and he scored six points, while Luke Cooper tallied seven steals and six points of his own.
“We executed our game plan beautifully,” Ross said. “It was a complete team effort on both ends of the floor.”
Eddie Klatush led Oakville with 15 points, while Courtney Price added 10.
The Vikings are on to the district title game, where they will take on Naselle at Montesano on Saturday.
Oakville will now have to win two straight to earn a state tournament berth, starting with a clash against Taholah at Hoquiam on Friday. A win there would put them in a winner-to-state elimination game against either Willapa Valley or Columbia Adventist on Saturday at Montesano.
