A Vancouver driver who allegedly plowed into a stopped Portland police cruiser was arrested and accused of DUI on Monday, officials said.

An officer spotted Avtar Singh, 56, slumped over inside a Jeep stopped in the middle of North Princeton Street around 6:40 p.m. Monday, a news release from Portland police said.

The officer, who was driving west on North Princeton Street, stopped to investigate, whereupon Singh accelerated and slammed into the police cruiser at about 10 mph, the news release said.

After Singh took field sobriety tests, the officer arrested him on accusations of driving under the influence of intoxicants and reckless driving, police said. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

The officer had mild back pain after the crash, officials said. Neither Singh nor his passenger suffered serious injuries, officials said.
