Paced by drawing 13 walks and stringing together timely hits, the Thunderbirds kicked off the Class 2A District 4 tournament with a 10-0, six-inning verdict over the Monarchs on Tuesday night at home.

It sets up a semifinal tussle with Columbia River on Wednesday at the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

Tumwater (17-5) scored at least one run in five of the six frames, jump-started with two apiece in the first two innings and it piled on four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Will Bond and Charlie Crawford each drew three walks while Luke Overbay registered three hits with a pair of doubles.

Bond, Derek Thompson and Jimmy Womach drove in two runs apiece. Liam Karlson snared the win on the mound with six innings pitched, four hits allowed and three strikeouts.
