A 45-year-old man was killed by a train in Marysville on Monday, marking the second death among four serious incidents this month, Marysville police said.

The man was struck by a train near 76th Street Northeast and State Avenue around 4 p.m., police said.

Minutes before, someone had reported to police that people were trespassing on the tracks and one of them was “acting erratically,” police said. It’s possible that substance use may have been involved in the man’s death, though the circumstances are being investigated.

Police say there have been four serious train-related incidents on the tracks in September and that this is the second death. A train fatally hit a 73-year-old man on Sept. 8, the Everett Herald reported.

The department said that each incident occurred under different circumstances including substance use, behavioral health crises, and risky decisions by drivers and pedestrians, The details about the other three incidents were not available, and the Police Department could not immediately be reached.

Police are urging the public to stay off the railroad tracks.

Tuesday marks “Operation Clear Track,” a nationwide rail-safety enforcement initiative, where police conduct targeted patrols at railroad crossings.

Police are asking people to follow signals and warning devices, never try to beat a train, and call 988 to reach the suicide and crisis lifeline if they or someone they know is in crisis.
