In a game to set up the biggest game of the softball season to date, the Bearcats set themselves in prime position for a chance at a league title with a 3-2 victory over the Bobcats on Wednesday night at Rec Park.

It sets up a showdown on Monday night in Chehalis between Tumwater and W.F. West, the top two in the Evergreen Conference. The two rivals will play a non-league game on Friday in Tumwater.

“I’m going to go up there with two lineups. Have one for their No. 2 pitcher and another in case we see Ferguson,” Bearcats head coach Kevin Zylstra said. “Whoever we get, we’ll be ready.”

With two outs in the bottom of the third and trailing 1-0, W.F. West (10-3, 5-1 EvCo) got its lineup back to the top and Lena Fragner started off the rally with a single. Avalon Myers and Staysha Fluetsch roped back-to-back RBI singles to put the Bearcats ahead.

Myers and Fluetsch each had two hits and a double. Fragner also notched two hits, scored twice and registered a stolen base.

“The real key is the other five hitters turning the lineup over again,” Zylstra said. “We were able to restrict Aberdeen quite a bit.”

Taylor Tobin tossed a complete game in the circle with nine strikeouts. Zylstra admitted she wasn’t sharp at the start, but settled down and got in a groove in the later innings.
