Sirens: 'Misbehaving' child; threats to kill a cat; DUI arrests

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Criminal trespass

• A 48-year-old Winlock woman was cited for trespassing in the 200 block of North Railroad Avenue just before 8:10 a.m. on March 11.

• A homeless man from Chehalis who was sitting in the entryway to a business in the 500 block of North Tower Avenue just after 4:25 p.m. on March 11 was trespassed from the property at the business’s request.

• Two Elma residents were trespassed from a business in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue just after 9 a.m. on March 12.

 

Juvenile problem

• Officers responded to a juvenile problem “where a child was misbehaving” in the 500 block of East Locust Street just after 10:05 a.m. on March 11. Officers determined no crime was committed.

 

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of East Locust and South Gold streets at approximately 3:15 p.m. on March 11.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 8200 block of northbound Interstate 5 at approximately 9:10 a.m. on March 12. The at-fault driver received a citation.

 

Hit-and-run

• A 68-year-old Centralia man was cited for hit-and-run after he crashed into a traffic sign at the intersection of Old Airport Way and Mellen Street just before 5:25 p.m. on March 11.

 

Suspicious circumstances

• A suspicious vehicle was reported in a parking lot in the 500 block of Harrison Avenue at 10:15 a.m. on March 11. No one was in the vehicle when an officer arrived.

• A citizen reported a suspicious white 1990s Ford Ranger pickup at the intersection of South Yew and Mellen streets just before 8:10 p.m. on March 12. The citizen reported the vehicle appeared to be casing houses or prowling vehicles, but no crimes were observed. The citizen followed the vehicle and updated law enforcement on its location.  An officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop for traffic and equipment violations. The vehicle’s three occupants “denied being in the Edison District or being involved in criminal activities” and were issued infractions related to the traffic stop.

DUI

• A 68-year-old Centralia man was arrested and booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI after an officer observed the driver’s pickup pull out in front of a vehicle and nearly cause a collision in the 1700 block of Harrison Avenue just before 8 p.m. on March 12. The officer activated his overhead lights and intermittent siren to stop the vehicle, but it failed to yield for approximately a quarter mile. After stopping, the pickup began to slowly roll back toward the police car, which had to also back up to prevent being hit, according to the Centralia Police Department.

Dispute

• A verbal domestic dispute was reported in the 1400 block of South Tower Avenue at 9:55 p.m. on March 11.

Theft

• A debit card was reported stolen from the 900 block of B Street at 10:25 a.m. on March 12. The case is under investigation.

• A 31-year-old Tacoma man and a 23-year-old Lacey woman were arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for accomplice-organized retail theft after they allegedly stole items from an outlet in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 1:40 p.m. on March 12. The woman allegedly “used a device to defeat the security sensor alarm” and was additionally booked on a theft with special circumstances charge.

Welfare check

• A caller asked officers to conduct a welfare check on a 66-year-old homeless Centralia man in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just before 10 p.m. on March 12. The officer attempted to help the man find a hotel room for the evening, but the local hotel offices were closed. The officer then provided the male with courtesy transport to the local shelter and referred him to other local housing services and resources.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Suspicious circumstances

• Just after 11:05 a.m. on March 11, a caller in the 1200 block of Southeast Washington Avenue reported someone was “hacking into her email and sending explicit pics of herself.”

• At approximately 1:05 p.m. on March 12, a caller in the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue reported a subject was “making threats to kill her cat” and was yelling at someone “through (a) drone in the air.”

• A suspicious vehicle was reported in the 100 block of Northeast Division Street just after 11:05 p.m. on March 12.

• A suspicious vehicle was reported in the 500 block of West Main Street just before 4:05 a.m. on March 13. An officer spoke with the driver and moved him along.

Criminal trespass

• Just after 12:20 p.m. on March 11, a resident in the 300 block of Southwest McFadden Avenue reported a homeless man had been sleeping in a vehicle in their driveway for the last three days. The resident asked police to move him along and trespass him from the property.

• Just after 7:15 p.m. on March 11, an employee at a business in the 100 block of Northeast Hampe Way reported a woman who was sleeping inside the business had claimed the employee “kidnapped her.” The employee asked that the woman be trespassed from the building.

• A former client at a facility in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue was reportedly trespassing and “being combative” at approximately 11:50 a.m. on March 12.

 

Assault

• A subject was arrested in the 7600 block of northbound Interstate 5 just before 1:35 p.m. on March 11 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

 

Vehicle accident

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way and northbound Interstate 5 just before 5:55 p.m. on March 11.

 

Animal negligence/abuse

• A case of “animal negligence/abuse” reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street just after 6:30 p.m. on March 11 is under investigation.

DUI

• A subject was arrested in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. on March 12 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for DUI after a caller reported an “erratic” vehicle.

 

Juvenile problem

• Just after 7:20 p.m. on March 12, a caller in the 100 block of Southwest 11th Street reported her 2-year-old granddaughter refused to get in the car. The caller expressed concerns the granddaughter was “going to try and run away.”

 

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Monday morning and Wednesday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications dispatched personnel to approximately 42 illness-related calls, 15 injury-related calls, two Lifeline medical alerts, four fire-related calls, two vehicle accidents, nine non-emergency service calls, one medical helicopter request, one overdose and two other calls.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Wednesday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 168 inmates, including 156 in the general population and 12 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 125 were reported male and 31 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 10 were reported male and two were reported female.

• As of Wednesday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 20 inmates, including five booked by the Centralia Police Department, 12 booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Lummi Nation, two booked by Chehalis Tribal Law Enforcement and one booked by Chehalis Tribal Court.
