Sheriff’s office: Human remains found in Onalaska area linked to ‘previously investigated homicide with a known victim’

Detectives with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after human remains were found on a property in the 500 block of Gish Road in the Onalaska area Tuesday evening, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. 

The remains are believed to be related to a “previously investigated homicide with a known victim” based on preliminary evidence, according to the sheriff’s office, which included no additional information on the homicide in the release. 

The sheriff’s office was made aware of the remains at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the release. A citizen directed deputies to the 500 block of Gish Road where deputies and detectives confirmed the remains were human. 

The Lewis County Coroner’s Office is working with a forensic anthropologist with the King County Medical Examiner’s Office to verify the identity of the individual. 



“The case remains active and, due to the nature of the investigation, no futher information is being released at this time,” the sheriff’s office stated. 

Further information about the identity of the decedent will be released by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.
