Rochester can’t get the bats going against Shelton

The Rochester baseball team’s offense struggled against Shelton on Wednesday, as the Warriors managed just one run in a 9-1 loss.

After going down scoreless in the top of the first, Shelton immediately took the lead with a leadoff home run and never looked back.

“That kind of set the tempo and started things off,” Rochester coach Brad Quarnstrom said.

The Highclimbers added another in the first and one in the third before a grand slam in the fifth put the game out of reach.

Hayden Pietras drove in the Warriors’ (5-7, 2-5 2A EvCo) lone run on an RBI double in the sixth.

With the loss, Rochester is now tied with Centralia and Shelton with five losses in the EvCo standings.

“We’re not out of it,” Quarnstrom said. “But we have to take care of business here.”

Rochester will host Black Hills for a doubleheader on Friday. The Wolves will be the designated home team in the first game, a league matchup that will be the resumption of a postponed game earlier in the month.

Rochester is leading that game 2-0 in the middle of the third. The second game will be a non-league matchup.
