An Oregon City music teacher was arrested Thursday on accusations that he kidnapped and raped a minor, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Derek Douglas Reeder, 44, was booked on charges that include rape, sexual abuse, kidnapping, assault and administering marijuana to a person under 18.

Reeder was working as a music teacher at an Oregon City nonprofit in 2023 when he met the juvenile he’s accused of victimizing, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said. “Reeder subsequently communicated with the victim through text messages and Instagram before allegedly sexually abusing the victim on multiple occasions,” authorities said in a statement.

The statement added that Reeder was fired in 2024 from the nonprofit, which authorities have not named, and he has been teaching music through his own Oregon City business called Slinky Strings.

Authorities said they believe there may be other victims and continue to investigate. They ask anyone who might have information to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 503-723-4949 or at www.clackosheriff.us/submitATip.

Reeder is being held at Clackamas County Jail.
