A man in his 70s was found dead in a motorhome on Haywire Road in the Napavine area after the motorhome caught fire on Saturday.

Fire crews with Lewis County Fire District 5 were dispatched to the fire at approximately 10 a.m, on Feb. 19, according to Fire Chief Dan Mahoney. Since the motorhome was near another residence, Fire Districts 6 and 15 were called in to assist.

Crews quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the rear of the motorhome and did no damage to the structure, according to Mahoney.

While they were clearing the scene, they located the body of the resident along with several deceased animals. The investigation was then turned over to the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office was not available for comment on Monday due to the holiday.

Mahoney said the cause of the fire was accidental.
