Behind two victories from distance standout Gunnar Morgan and a boatload of second place finishers, the Warriors tallied 58.5 points to finish second in a Class 2A league meet on Wednesday at Shelton High School.

Morgan cruised to victories in the 800 and 3,200-meter runs, winning both races by over 10 seconds and anchored the second place 1,600 relay. Rochester didn’t get any other winners, but Dominic Delgado picked up two runner-up placements in the 100 and 200.

Chaos Tanori (110 hurdles), Jack Dane (javelin) and Riccardo Bruttini (high jump) each finished second. Centralia’s Jacoby Corwin (400, triple jump) plus Jakob Cooper (long jump) also placed second.

On the girls side, Rochester and Centralia tied in the team race with 33 points. The two programs dominated the individual sprint events.

The Tigers’ Desiray Crockett triumphed in the 100 in 13.64 seconds while the Warriors’ Mercedies Dupont crossed the finish line first in the 200 and 400. Her time in the 200 of 26.80 seconds is now 15th in 2A.

Centralia’s Ava Jones (200), Natalia Hedgers (shot put) and Summer Holmes (javelin) placed second while Rochester’s Kailyn Black (300 hurdles), Grace Hoover (high jump) and its 400 relay nabbed runner-up finishes.
