A 41-year-old man drowned in the ocean near Seaside on Wednesday, officials said.

The incident took place around 7:30 p.m., off Avenue T in Seaside, a Thursday news release from the city said.

Seaside Fire & Rescue, Cannon Beach Fire & Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard used jet skis and swimmers in the rescue effort and were able to pull the man from the water, the release said. He was taken to Providence Seaside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two fire department responders were injured during the operation, the release said. Both were treated and released.

Officials warned that the ocean can be dangerous and urged beachgoers to be careful, use a buddy system, and avoid swimming in areas known for rip currents.
