Instead of the usual blue striping on Lewis County Fire District 6’s apparatus, two vehicles will sport pink stripes through the month of October “in an effort to raise awareness for Breast Cancer and the devastating effects it has on women and families,” the fire district announced Monday.

In addition, firefighters will wear pink T-shirts throughout the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“Having lost my own mother to breast cancer, I am fully aware of the effects this terrible disease has on families,” said District 6 Chief Ken Cardinale in an email to The Chronicle.

All the T-shirts, graphics and stripping were donated, according to Cardinale.

Esco Signs in Chehalis applied the stripping on the apparatus.
