In loving memory of Wayne Spriggs: 1933-2024

Posted

Wayne Leroy Spriggs was born in Springfield, Oregon, to Walter Spriggs and Edna Cox on Jan. 16, 1933.

Wayne's family moved around many times during his time growing up. After he completed his education, he joined the Air Force as a fireman in 1951. He completed his service around the world in 1955. He met and married Florence Haffner in Spokane, Washington, in 1956. They moved around the Northwest and settled in Vancouver, Washington, and had two daughters during this time: Lori and Audri Spriggs.

After 25 years, Wayne and Florence went their separate ways. Wayne met Ardis McGrew while he was driving truck and she was a waitress at King Solomon’s in Centralia, Washington. They were married on April 10, 1993. Traveling around the country on motorcycles was a passion of both Ardis and Wayne since the 80s. They both retired in the early 90s to continue their travels across the country to see friends and family.

Wayne loved to hunt, golf, ride his motorcycle, collect old cars and spend time with family.

Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Walter Spriggs; mother, Edna Thornton (nee Cox); brother, Leland Spriggs; wife, Ardis Spriggs; and daughter, Lori Markowski.

Wayne is survived by daughter, Audri (Kurt) Sewell; sister, Sharlene (Bud) Houston; and grandchildren, Sam Sewell (Amber Poitras), Karla (Morgan Hallof) Sewell, Tyler Chimenti (Randi Savage) and Duke Markowski (Megan Swearingen). Wayne is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Grant Sewell, Ryker Chimenti and Kennedy Sewell; and his stepchildren, Roxanne Masters and Lance McGrew and their extended families.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. April 20, 2024, at Grace Foursquare Church in Centralia, 3030 Borst Ave. Please wear a bucket hat for Wayne if you're attending the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lewis County Animal Shelter or one closest to you.
