Bridge installation scheduled on Forest Road 76

Beginning on June 3, bridge installation work will take place in the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District.

The new bridge will be installed at Covel Creek on Forest Road 76.

Motorists should expect traffic interruptions beginning June 3 with 20-minute delays possible, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.

There will be a full road closure at milepost 7 between June 10 and June 28.

A public meeting is scheduled 6 p.m. May 13 at the Cispus Meeting Hall to give notice of the project and road closure.

The road closure for the project will not impede entrance to the Cispus Learning Center. However, the project will impact parking for both Covel Creek Falls and the Angel Falls Trailhead.

The bridge is needed for flood, facility and resource management. The existing culvert is undersized and poses risks of road washout and downstream flooding, according to the forest service.

The new bridge will allow increased debris flows and provide habitat for aquatic organism passage.
