Seven runs in the top of the fifth inning allowed Shelton to break away and eventually top Centralia 14-3 in five innings at Bob Peters Field on the campus of Centralia College on Monday night.
Two days after playing at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, the Tigers returned home and after rain moved the second game in the Evergreen Conference slate to Monday, it was played on turf. The Highclimbers took advantage early.
Shelton plated four runs in the first to lead wire-to-wire. It added a run in the third and two in the fourth before the outburst an inning later. Two passed balls plated the first two runs in the fifth, then the capper was a two-run triple. All of the runs scored with two outs.
Centralia attempted to extend the game into the sixth with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on Cohen Ballard crossing home on a wild pitch and Landen Jenkins lifting a sacrifice fly to center field. The Highclimbers induced a game-ending groundout two batters later.
Hudson Waterfield finished with two of the Tigers four hits while Ballard recorded a stolen base. Centralia faces Tenino on Tuesday and Castle Rock on Wednesday in a pair of non-league games.
