A crooked number late helped the W.F. West softball team defeat River Ridge in six innings on Monday, as the Bearcats topped the Hawks 15-5.
River Ridge took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Lena Fragner tied the game immediately in the bottom of the first with a solo home run.
The Hawks took another one-run lead in the third, but a two-run blast from Avalon Myers gave W.F. West a 3-2 lead. Staysha Fluetsch followed with a triple and later scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-2 advantage.
The Bearcat bats went quiet for a couple of innings, and River Ridge scored three in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, though, the W.F. West offense came alive in a big way, as the Bearcats scored 11 runs to end the game.
After the first three batters reached to start the inning, Amayah Middleton singled to tie the game, and a fielder’s choice on the next at-bat gave the Bearcats (3-0) the lead. After a sacrifice fly, the next eight Bearcats reached base, and seven runs came across in that stretch.
Addison Froschauer ended the game with a run-rule walk-off sacrifice fly.
Five Bearcats finished with two base hits, five scored multiple runs, and six drove in two or more runs, led by Fragner, who drove in three.
W.F. West will head to Tumwater on Wednesday to open league play before hosting Centralia on Friday.
