A man and a woman were shot and wounded Saturday night in Wenatchee in what police say is a domestic-related dispute. Both sustained significant injuries.

The Wenatchee Police Department was dispatched to a gunshot call at 10:54 p.m. to the 1600 block of South Mission Street in Wenatchee, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Chelan County Superior Court.

The affidavit said the caller was a 26-year-old female, claiming she was "shot by her friend," which she later changed to her boyfriend.

Once police arrived on the scene, they discovered the woman lying on the ground with gunshot wounds next to a silver 2015 Audi A4 parked inside a carport with the man sitting on the passenger's side.

Authorities removed the 36-year-old male from the vehicle and away from the carport and then began life-saving efforts.

Both victims were transported to Confluence Health Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The woman was admitted to the hospital in critical but stable condition, with a spinal cord injury, according to the affidavit.

The man was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after hours of life-saving measures. He underwent emergency surgery and, as of Sunday, was in the Intensive Care Unit in "serious condition," with reported injuries to the neck and face.

An updated condition was not immediately available Monday.

Police searched the two storage units near the carport and the woman's apartment.

The affidavit said it appeared that both victims had either just arrived at the location or were about to leave when 29-year-old Marcos Gaspar-Bernal approached the vehicle with a shotgun and fired at least five buckshot rounds, normally used for hunting, through the passenger side window, leaving a large hole.

Police contacted the woman, who told them she had been dating Gaspar-Bernal since April, adding that he had been abusive, manipulative and controlling "the entire time."

Earlier during the day on Saturday, the woman said she and Gaspar-Bernal had gotten into a fight about her having male friends, during which he reportedly told her she would see something traumatic that day, and then began destroying things in the apartment.

The woman explained that the other victim was someone she'd met recently, who gave her money for rides around town. They were both traveling near the woman's apartment when he asked her to pull over. Instead, she pulled into her carport.

Once parked, the woman said Gaspar-Bernal was sitting in his 2008 Acura TL in the adjacent parking spot — he quickly got out of his car with a shotgun and started shooting through the passenger window.

She told police Gaspar-Bernal shot the other victim multiple times before turning to her and doing the same. He fled the scene in his car after the incident.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the other victim's residence, where they recovered suspected illegal drugs, packaging materials, a small scale and a modified semiautomatic handgun.

Authorities arrested Gaspar-Bernal outside his place of work in Wenatchee.

During questioning, Gaspar-Bernal, according to the affidavit, denied being the shooter but admitted he was present and claimed he fled after the shooting started.

Gaspar-Bernal was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder (domestic violence). Bail was set at $1 million Monday during a preliminary hearing.

This story was updated Monday afternoon to correct the age of Marcos Gaspar-Bernal.
