A quartet of local grapplers won their brackets on Saturday at the massive Centralia Holiday Classic wrestling tournament at the Northwest Sports Hub.

W.F. West’s Roehre Cunningham, Centralia’s Mykka McAllister and Rochester’s Jayden Lancaster won their respective brackets in the varsity boys tournament, while Adna’s Cheyeann Meyer was the lone local champion in the varsity girls tournament.

Cunningham, at 113 pounds, had a short day on the mat, winning with a pin in the quarterfinals in 53 seconds, notching a 45-second pin in the semifinals and pinning Olympia’s Chaz Poston in 3:35 in the finals.

McAllister, at 138, beat Adna’s Aaron Slape, 15-8, in the finals, after winning by pin (2:34 and 5:22) in his first two matches.

“(He) was very dominant on the day, and controlled his opponents very well,” Centralia coach Scott Phillips said of McAllister, currently ranked fourth in the state at the 2A level.

Lancaster (145), meanwhile, got a first-round pin in 49 seconds, won his quarterfinal with a pin in 2:45, won in the semifinals with a pin in 1:23, and beat Adna’s Lucas Ashley, 7-4, in the championship bout.

Meyer, in the 125-pound girls bracket, won her first two matches with first-round pins, and beat Olympia’s Hailey Henry 7-6 in the semifinals to reach the championship. She then pinned Lakes’ Jazzmine Garza in 1:09 for the 125 title.

“Cheyeann looked great in all her matches on her way to the title,” Adna coach Craig Ferrier said.

W.F. West’s boys won the team title with 120 points, with Levi Walters finishing second at 126 and Caden Cunningham (106) and Chris Powe (195) each finishing fourth.

“I thought our kids wrestled well,” W.F. West coach Jamie Rakevich said. “We didn’t have a ton of placers, but every one of our kids won a match to give us some team points.”

The host Tigers finished second with 112 points, with fourth-place finishes from Jacob Reyna (113), Eddie Matias (120), Dayvi Gaspar (126), Tristan Dickey (170) and Aaron Adamo (195).

“Our wrestlers are competing very well and we love our group of athletes,” Phillips said. “They work really hard and pay attention very well.”

Centralia’s Justin Lake (145), Trevor Richey (160), Caleb Hylton (170), Manny Aguilar (220) and Izz Almontes (285) all finished co-fifth, Phillips added.

Adna was the only 2B team to finish in the top 10, picking up 87.5 points to finish fifth. Ashton Dowell (170), Matthew Slape (160), Aaron Slape and Ashley all finishing second. Braxton Dowell (152) added a fourth-place finish.

“We had a very solid day on the mats,” Ferrier said. “Our JVs wrestled tough on their side of the tournament, and it’s pretty awesome to enter seven on the varsity side (six boys, one girl) and have five in the finals.”

Centralia’s girls squad got fourth-place finishes from Taryn Salazar (100), Olivia Delaney (105) and Alayna Miller (130).

Centralia will wrestle at Castle Rock in a dual on Wednesday, and W.F. West will compete in the HammerHead Invitational in Bremerton on Friday and Saturday. Adna wrestles at Wahkiakum’s Down River Challenge in Cathlamet on Saturday.
