Weekend College Baseball: Blazers Earn Split Against Red Devils

LONGVIEW — Centralia won the first game but Lower Columbia won the second game to split a NWAC baseball doubleheader here on Sunday.

The Blazers won Game 1, 3-0. Josh Myer started on the mound for Centralia and was brilliant, throwing eight innings, allowing five hits, no runs and four walks while striking out two batters. Cole Doughty pitched the ninth and earned the save with no hits and one walk.

At the plate, Blake Marker had a double, a run and a RBI. Ethan Hori had a hit, a run and two walks and Festus Gilligan had a hit, a run and a walk.

Centralia plated one run in the third inning and two runs in the fifth in the shutout win.

Lower Columbia bounced back in Game 2 with a 10-1 win in seven innings. Lower Columbia’s pitchers allowed three hits and one run in seven innings.

Colton Titus, Gavin Manheimer and Hori each had a hit for the Blazers.

The Red Devils scored one run in the first and two runs in second. Lower Columbia put the game away with a run in each the fourth and sixth innings and plated five runs in the fifth inning.

Centralia (7-21, 2-6) travels to Puyallup on Friday at noon for a NWAC doubleheader.

Lower Columbia Sweeps Centralia

LONGVIEW — Centralia was the home team on the scoreboard here on Friday, but Lower Columbia showed the Blazers who David Story Field really belongs to with a sweep of a NWAC baseball doubleheader.

The Red Devils won Game 1, 11-2. Lower Columbia’s Mitch Lines started on the mound and earned the win, throwing seven innings and allowing six hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts. Mikey Callia Jr. pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and no earned runs.

Centralia’s Dylan Stakelin threw two innings in relief, allowing two hits, one walk and no earned runs. Marco Quintero pitched 2 ⅓ innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs and two walks with two strikeouts.

At the plate, Colton Titus was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Kyle Combs was 2-for-3 with a run and Gavin Manheimer hit a double for the Blazers.

Centralia managed one hit in a 5-1 loss in Game 2. Zach Weinert started on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing two hits, no runs and two walks while striking out three batters.

Lower Columbia’s Justin Solt started and threw five innings, allowing one hit, one earned run and five walks with 11 strikeouts. W.F. West alum Dakota Hawkins pitched the final two innings, allowing no hits, no runs and no walks while striking out five batters.

Gavin O’Donnell had the only hit for the Blazers. Festus Gilligan had a RBI and Colton Titus scored the lone run.

Centralia scored their only run in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. The advantage lasted until the sixth inning when the Red Devils scored all five of their runs.
