Wednesday's Prep Boys Golf: Three Local Players Advance to State 2A Boys Golf Tournament

WOODLAND — Centralia’s Rudy Voetberg and Brett Wasson along with W.F. West’s Brady Hinds made the cut into the state tournament after the second round of the District 4 2A Boys Golf Tournament at Lewis River Golf Course here on Wednesday.

The highest finisher was Hinds, carding an 84 in the second round for a two day total of 167 to finish in seventh place.

“I was real pleased with how hard he fought through. I think it’s the most challenging of the district tournament courses we’ve played,” W.F. West coach Bruce Thompson said. “There was some interesting stuff. There were some marvelous things that happened and some catastrophic things that happened. Brady did very well, other than than I was pleased for Brett.”

Centralia’s Wasson shot an 85 in the second round, completing the tournament with a total of 173 to place 12th. Voetberg had a 90 in round two for a two round total of 177 to finish in 19th place.

W.F. West finished with 69 team points to place fifth as a team and Centralia totaled 58 team points for sixth place.



Black Hills’ Tyler Cassell won the tournament, shooting a 77 for a two day total of 150. Ridgefield won the team title, with all six golfers making the cut for 210 team points.

Andrew Kim recorded a 94 in the second round for a total of 180 and Jaron Howell had an 88 in round two, shooting a 181 in the two rounds.

Rochester’s Marcus Ashton finished with a two round total of 188 after a second round 96 and Centralia’s Nolan Rice shot a 98 for a total of 194.

Hinds, Wasson and Voetberg will have to wait until May 2019 to compete in the State 2A golf tournament at Liberty Lake Golf Course in Liberty Lake.
