ADNA — The Pirates shutout the Mules in the fourth quarter en route to a 66-36 win in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.
Adna’s Lyle Metzenberg scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Trevor Minkoff scored 16 points, Cole Fay added 10 points and Chase Collins chipped in nine points.
Luke Brown led the Mules with 11 points and KC Beery and Brody Carlson each tallied eight points.
Adna shot 50 percent from the field while holding Wahkiakum to 37 percent shooting.
The Pirates scored 21 points to take a lead and kept the momentum going in the second quarter for a 32-22 lead at halftime. Adna created some distance in the third quarter and scored 16 points in the fourth quarter while blanking the Mules to cruise to the win.
“We did a better job of just contesting threes. Our goal is to force teams to shoot over the top of our hand and box out. I wasn’t comfortable with our lead, that’s a team that’s getting better,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “We had talks at halftime and during timeouts and being fundamentally better as a defense. Giving up zero, that’s pretty good. They obviously responded there.”
Adna (11-3, 5-0) travels to Toledo on Friday for league contest.
Ducks Fly Past Timberwolves
TOUTLE — Kaleb Rashoff scored 25 points but it wasn’t enough as Toutle Lake earned a 66-43 win over Morton-White Pass in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.
Rashoff was one rebound short of a double-double with nine boards. Dylan Richards added seven points for MWP.
Broc Keeton scored 16 points to lead the Ducks. Logan Grabenhorst chipped in 14 points, Mike Adams added 13 points and Jackson Cox was also in double figures with 11 points.
MWP had trouble shooting against the Ducks, shooting 25 percent while Toutle Lake shot 45 percent. Toutle Lake also won the rebounding battle, 45-34.
“I’d be doing a lot better if we could remember how to shoot,” MWP coach Chad Cramer said. “We generated the looks that we wanted but we just couldn’t get them to go down as a team. Shooting is one of those things that’s very very contagious when you’re making them but it’s also contagious when it’s going the other way.”
The Ducks jumped ahead 13-10 after one quarter and expanded the lead to 26-17 at halftime, with the T-Wolves shooting just 18 percent from the field in the first half. Toutle Lake scored 25 points in the third quarter to pull away for good.
“It was just a poor shooting night and you're not going to beat a quality Toutle team when you’re having a bad night like that,” Cramer said. “We finally got some shots to go in there but it was just too little too late.”
Carmer was pleased with the performance of Rashoff in the loss.
MWP (9-6, 2-4) will play at Onalaska on Friday.
Chinooks Shoot Past Loggers
KALAMA — The Chinooks had four players score in double figures to lead Kalama to a 69-54 win over Onalaska in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.
Alex Frazier led the Loggers with 17 points and Carter Whitehead chipped in 11 points.
Jackson Esary led all scorers with 18 points. Tommy Brandenburg added 14 points, Alex Dyer recorded 12 points and Grant Vandenberg was the other Chinook in double figures with 10 points.
Kalama shot 46 percent from the field while Onalaska shot 32 percent. The Chinooks also won the rebounding battle, 38-26.
Kalama led 20-13 after one quarter, but Onalaska was able to battle back and take a 30-28 lead. The Chinooks went on a 12-0 run before halftime to lead 42-29 at intermission. The second half was almost even to allow Kalama to cruise to victory.
“They just played harder than we did. We kept the lead at 30-28 late in the first half and then they scored 12 straight before the half and we never sniffed any closer than that the rest of the way,” Onalaska coach Wayne Nelson said. “It’s very disappointing. The last three games our effort defense was great, or at least very good. Tonight there was just too many mistakes on defense.”
Nelson noted three guys who he felt played hard in AJ Volk, David Fritch and Kyle Hamilton.
Onalaska (7-8, 0-6) hosts Morton-White Pass on Friday in a C2BL game.
Cardinals Start Strong In Win Over Rainier
WINLOCK — The Cardinals scored 17 points in the first quarter and never looked back, defeating Rainier 58-36 in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.
Bryce Cline led all scorers with 22 points and Coleson Richendollar did it all for the Cardinals, scoring 13 points to go with seven rebounds, seven assists, six steals and four blocks.
Wyatt Coleman led the Mountaineers with 12 points.
Cline scored 12 points in the opening quarter for a 17-4 lead after one quarter. Rainier played better in the second quarter but the Cardinals still led 30-18 at halftime. It was all Winlock in the second half, outscoring Rainier 26-17 to cruise to the win.
“We came out pretty fired up. I challenged them in the locker room before the game,” Winlock coach Nick Bamer said. “You know, sometimes we start pretty well and sometimes we wait until the second half. I just told them this is one where we really need to come out defensively focused.”
Winlock (5-9, 3-2) hosts Kalama on Friday in a league contest.
Napavine Cruises Past Mossyrock
NAPAVINE — The Tigers came out hungry and ate it up on the stat sheet, cruising to a 85-36 win over Mossyrock in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Wednesday.
Dawson Stanley scored 24 points and Cade Evander added 22 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Keith Olson chipped in 14 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers.
“Cade Evander really stood out tonight just with his overall effort and energy,” Napavine coach Rex Stanley said. “He’s just a kid who plays hard every day at practice. You never have to worry about him showing up.”
Luis Hilario-Garcia scored nine points to lead the Vikings. Ryan Bellino added eight points and Matteo Mendoza scored six points.
Napavine shot 46 percent from the field while holding Mossyrock to 31 percent shooting. The Tigers also won the rebounding battle, 47-21.
Napavine led 27-10 after one quarter and continued to build the lead in the second quarter for a 46-20 at halftime. The Tigers held Mossyrock to eight points in each the third and fourth quarter to cruise to the win.
“We’re headed right back into the teeth of the league schedule again,” Stanley said. “Hopefully over the next few weeks, we’ll keep fine tuning some things and hit that district tournament right in stride.”
Napavine (9-6, 4-1) travels to Toutle Lake on Friday while Mossyrock (0-15, 0-6) travels to Rainier next Wednesday for a C2BL game.
