TUMWATER — Tyler Speck scored a game-high 24 points and the Bearcats topped rival Tumwater 67-64 to lock up second place in 2A Evergreen Conference on the road Tuesday.
W.F. West (14-5, 7-2) has now beaten Tumwater (15-4, 6-3) twice in a row and are locked in at second place in the EvCo, regardless if it wins or loses at home against Centralia in the regular-season finale Thursday.
“Very proud of the gritty performance out of our entire team in the tough environment against a talented Tumwater squad,” W.F. West coach Chris White said.
Cade Haller added 19 in the win for the Bearcats, while Carter McCoy had 13 and Kayden Kelly six.
The Bearcats face rival Centralia (3-15, 2-6) in the final regular season game for both teams at 7 p.m. in Chehalis.
ABERDEEN — Senior Wyatt Johnson scored a game-high 22 points for Aberdeen and the Bobcats handed Centralia its fourth straight defeat in a 61-49 2A Evergreen Conference victory Tuesday.
The Bobcats shot 58 percent from the field to keep the Tigers at bay, while holding Centralia to 35 percent shooting from the floor.
The Tigers were led by senior forward Matt House’s 13 points. Derek Bearisto added 10, Alejandro Valencia eight and Jason Baum eight.
The Tigers reeled off a 21-12 run in the fourth quarter but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Tigers had allowed the Bobcats to break off a 23-point third quarter.
Centralia fell to 3-16, 2-7, while Aberdeen improved to 7-12, 3-6. The Tigers travel to rival W.F. West at 7 p.m. Thursday for their season finale.
ROCHESTER — The Wolves sprinted out to a 27-0 lead after one quarter here on Tuesday and never looked back in their 2A Evergreen basketball affair.
By halftime the Wolves held a 45-8 advantage and 16 minutes of game play later the first place boys from Black Hills had locked up a 71-30 league victory.
“They’re deep and we’re just inexperienced,” Rochester coach Derrick Pringle said. “They are very unselfish.”
Justin Hicks scored a game-high 24 points for Black Hills and Zach Crumley added a dozen points.
Meanwhile, Rochester shot just 33 percent on 36 field goal attempts and sank only one of five free throws.
“We didn’t shoot it very well and we didn’t get to the line very much,” Pringle said.
Anthony Groninger led Rochester with nine points. Kade Yakovich added six points in the loss.
Rochester (0-19, 0-9) will host Aberdeen on Thursday for senior night.
