Tenino’s Brieanna Dell recorded a hat trick within the first 30 minutes of the game to help the Beavers earn a 4-1 win over W.F. West in a non-league girls soccer match in Chehalis on Tuesday.
The Beavers scored in the 4th minute on a goal from Lara Kershaw with an assist from Dell. Dell scored her first goal in the 9th minute. She added another goal in the 20th minute on an assist from Kershaw. Dell completed the hat trick in the 29th minute on an assist from Courtney Dodge for a 4-0 lead at halftime.
W.F. West outshot Tenino 14-7 in the game, but couldn’t put a ball into the net until the 78th minute on a goal by Lauren Tornow.
“Our team played the best 80 minutes they’ve played all year. The score line is a little deceptive,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “They have a really good player in Brieanna She tore my defense apart. We struggled marking her. We haven’t seen a player of that caliber yet this year. We couldn’t defend her well enough but our possession and passing, we played really well today.”
Tenino coach Kevin Schultz was happy with how his team performed and the fast start.
“We have a tendency to start slow. They rang the post the first couple minutes into the game. That was a wake up call and we got on them after that,” Schultz said. “I told them how important of a game it was for me. I coach at W.F. West, I wanted to beat them. They stepped up and answered the call.”
Schultz noted the performance of freshman defender Alivia Hunter, playing in a new position and having to jump into the game early after an injury.
“She shut down the right hand side of the field. I’m proud of how far she’s come, how hard she worked tonight,” Schultz said. “Anytime they came down that side of the field, she gobbled it up.”
W.F. West (1-3) travels to face Elma next Tuesday while Tenino (3-0) hits the road on Saturday to face Stevenson in a non-league game.
Mark Morris Tops Centralia With Late Penalty Kick
It was tied at one for most of the game, but a late penalty in the box gave Mark Morris a penalty kick that was converted into a goal in the last 30 seconds of the game to help the Monarchs win 2-1 over Centralia in a non-league girls soccer match at Tiger Stadium in Centralia on Tuesday.
After an opening goal by Mark Morris in the 9th minute, Alayna Miller scored a goal on a free kick in the 25th minute to tie the game.
There were no goals until the end, when a penalty in the box allowed a penalty kick, which Mark Morris buried for the win.
“Overall, I’m really happy with how the ladies played tonight. I’m not happy we lost, we ran out of time on the clock,” Centralia coach Henry Gallanger said. “The defense recovered but the referee calls what they call. That’s the best we’ve played all season against a good Mark Morris team. They’re one of the better teams in GSHL, that’s part of the reason why we scheduled them.”
Gallanger also was happy with how his defense played tonight, weathering the storm from a barrage of Mark Morris attackers.
“Now we just have to find a measure of consistency and play like that every game from here on out,” Gallanger said. “That’s going to be our next big challenge, finding that consistency, urgency and passion.”
Centralia (0-3) hosts Evergreen on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Tiger Stadium in non-league game.
