Tuesday's Girls Soccer: Bearcats Earn First Win Over Elma

W.F. West’s Courtney Bennett had a goal and two assists, leading the Bearcats to a 4-2 win over Elma in a nonleague girls soccer match on Tuesday in Chehalis.

Elma scored in the fourth minute to take an early lead. W.F. West answered in the 10th minute on a goal by Alida Ellingson and an assist from Abbey Duffey. Lauren Tornow added a goal on Bennett’s first assist in the 36th minute for a 2-1 lead at halftime.

The Eagles scored in the 65th minute to tie the game, but Tornow scored her second of the game two minutes later on an assist from Bennett, and Bennett added the insurance goal in the 70th minute to seal the win.

“It feels pretty good, I’m really happy for our girls. It was a little bit of a physical match,but our youngsters held their own. I liked the adversity we faced, we gave up early goal but came right back,” W.F. West coach Allen Anderson said. “Courtney had a fantastic game tonight playing in that attacking midfield role. She took a lot of big hits and kept getting up.”

W.F. West (1-4) starts Evergreen 2A Conference play on Thursday, facing Black Hills in Tumwater.

Montesano Topples Centralia

Centralia wasn’t able to find any offense at Tiger Stadium on Tuesday, falling 2-0 to Montesano in a nonleague girls soccer game.

Montesano’s Samantha Stanfield scored in the 18th minute, and teammate Peyton Poler scored four minutes later for the only goals of the game.



Centralia had a penalty kick in the 15th minute, but couldn’t convert. The Tigers also outshot Montesano in the second half, 6-5, but Montesano’s defense held tough to earn the win.

“First half was not our best performance, we definitely came in the second half with some adjustments to get some chances,” Centralia coach Henry Gallanger said. “Their keeper did a good job, I was happier with our second half performance.”

Centralia (4-1-1) begins conference play on Thursday, hosting Aberdeen at Tiger Stadium.

Tenino Defeats Rochester

TENINO — The Beavers remained undefeated on the blacktop on Tuesday, defeating Rochester 3-0 in a nonleague girls soccer match.

Tenino’s Ryan Wachter, Lannie Dowies and Courtney Dodge each had goals in the win.

Tenino (4-0) travels to face Napavine on Saturday in a nonleague match, while Rochester (0-5) hosts Tumwater on Thursday in the first Evergreen 2A Conference game of the season.
