MORTON — Kaleb Rashoff struck out 13 in 4 ⅔ innings, leading Morton-White Pass to a 7-3 win over Toutle Lake here Tuesday in Central 2B League baseball action.
Rashoff gave up one hit and one run and walked one batter in his tenure on the mound, aiding his own cause with a triple.
Gavyn Higdon closed things out, fanning four in the final 2 ⅓ innings and going 2 for 4 at the dish. Freshman Mason Higdon went 3 for 4, and Dylan Richards was 2 for 4.
Timberwolf coach Lee Metcalf noted that most of his key players have been in the starting lineup since they were freshmen, and are now on equal footing with their opponents.
“These kids are older and stronger and able to compete. They’re upperclassmen now, and we’re seeing our pitchers got a little deeper and throw a little harder,” he said. “It’s going to be fun to watch them just continue to mature and play against kids their own age.”
Morton-White Pass (2-1, all league games) plays at Mossyrock on Thursday.
Pirates Blank Kalama in Five
ADNA — Adna made the most of its six hits here on Tuesday to pick up a 10-0, five-inning C2BL baseball win over Kalama.
Camden Ryan pitched all five frames for Adna, allowing four hits and walking two batters.
“He used his defense really well,” Adna coach Jon Rooklidge said. “The defense played well. He got a lot of ground balls and fly balls.”
Elmer Loose went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Chance Fay hit a two-run double in the fourth inning, Conner Weed and Ryan both hit two-run singles, and Sawyer Burdick added an RBI single for Adna, which played error-free defense.
“(There was) not a lot of hits, but when we had them, there were runners on base in situations when we hit the ball,” Rooklidge said. “We made the most of it, pitched well, played great defense, and were opportunistic at the plate against a good quality opponent.”
Adna (3-1, 3-0 league) plays at Winlock on Friday.
Wahkiakum Holds Off Napavine 8-4
NAPAVINE — The Mules had hits from eight of the nine spots in the lineup here Tuesday and topped Napavine, 8-4, in C2BL baseball action.
Laythan Demarest went 3 for 4 at the plate for the Tigers, while Dawson Stanley was 2 for 3 with a double. Garret Shannon and Levi Gates both had a hit and drove in a run.
James Anderson, Zach Brown and Terris Record split the pitching duties for Wahkiakum, combining for nine strikeouts and four walks with eight hits allowed and no earned runs.
“They looked pretty good. They’re definitely full of kids that have played a lot of baseball, so they’re senior-heavy,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said, “and some of their seniors have played for five years now.”
Napavine had eight hits in the loss, and plated two runs in the seventh inning.
“Our approach was pretty good at the plate. We had some guys that hit the ball really hard, just right at people,” Demarest said. “There was a few plays that were made, here and there, that if we don’t hit the ball right at guys, and have a few baserunning blunders, it’s probably a different ballgame. But as it is, I think we did alright.”
Seth Butler added three walks for Napavine.
Napavine (3-2, 2-1 league) hosts Elma on Wednesday.
Pe Ell-Willapa Valley Shuts Out Toledo
PE ELL — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s Cub Bair and Donny Ward combined to shut out Toledo on the mound as the Titans’ won 2-0 in a Central 2B League baseball game here Tuesday.
Bair pitched four innings, giving up two hits without a walk and striking out eight batters. Ward came on in the fifth inning and pitched three frames, allowing two hits and striking out three.
Keyton Barnum was 2 for 3 with a run and Tyson Nissell and Max Smith each had a hit for the Titans.
It was scoreless until the third inning when Nissell hit an RBI single to bring home Barnum for a 1-0 lead. PWV added another run in the fourth and let its pitching and defense do the work the rest of the way — though coach Kelly Barnum pointed out the eight runners his squad left on the bags.
“We had runners on at least every inning but we don’t produce a run,” Barnum said. “That’s something we definitely have to improve on, but we’ll take a league win any way we can get it.”
Nissell, Barnum noted, made a diving catch in the seventh inning to help PWV maintain its shutout.
The Titans (2-2, 2-1) travel to face Toutle Lake on Friday, while Toledo (0-4, 0-3) hosts Rainier on Friday in a Central 2B League game.
Rainier Rolls Past Mossyrock
MOSSYROCK — Rainier scored six runs in the third inning and cruised in a 15-1 win over Mossyrock here Tuesday in Central 2B League baseball action.
Trevin Pericic worked all five innings for the Mountaineers, allowing four hits — to Evan Gootgeld, Justin Gootgeld, Aiden Weist and Graden Hollister.
“They played a good game. Infield-wise, they made some really nice plays,” Mossyrock coach Jay Henderson said. “Our kids put the bat on the ball and hit the ball hard.”
Kord Senter, Henderson added, hit the ball well all game but solid fielding by Rainier left him with nothing to show for it in the scorebook.
Mossyrock (0-3, all league games) hosts Morton-White Pass on Thursday.
Loggers Chop Down Cardinals
ONALASKA — Onalaska had seven hits and Winlock had seven errors to help the Loggers earn a 17-0 win over Winlock in five innings in a Central 2B League baseball game here on Tuesday.
AJ Volk started on the mound for Onalaska and pitched three innings, allowing no hits and striking out eight batters.
Volk has a single, triple and four RBI’s at the plate. Mathew Kurzeika had a double and three RBI’s, Kyle Trulson had a single and an RBI and Ashton Haight had a triple, single and two RBI’s for the Loggers.
“They played excellent, error free baseball. Pitchers threw strikes, we aggressive at the plate,” Onalaska coach Rocky Stanley said. “We just played good baseball, I’m real happy.”
Catcher Tyler Cook, playing behind the plate while five pitchers got their first varsity innings in on Tuesday, played well, Winlock coach Jordan Nailon said.
“He did a really good job of handling his staff,” Nailon said. “We just didn’t throw enough strikes.”
Onalaska scored two runs in the first inning, then poured it on with six runs in the second and five runs in the third to put the game out of reach.
Onalaska (1-2, 1-2) travels to Wahkiakum on Friday, while Winlock (0-3, 0-3) hosts Naselle at 3 p.m on Wednesday in a nonleague game.
