Thursday's Prep Cross Country: Austen Apperson Wins Central 2B League Championship

RAINIER — Adna’s Austen Apperson completed the cross country course in 16 minutes, 36 seconds to win the boys Central 2B League Championship race here on Thursday.

Onalaska’s Zachary Wright finished in third place with a time of 16:55 and Toledo’s Nicholas Marty placed fifth with a time of 17:33.

Kalama won the boys team title with 52 points, with Mossyrock placing third as a team with 87 points. Morton-White Pass finished fourth and Adna placed fifth.

MWP’s Asher Sympson (18:24) finished in 10th place. Mossyrock’s James Cushman (18:38.4) placed 12th and MWP’s Manuel Martinez (18:38.74) was .34 seconds behind Cushman in 13th place. Mossyrock’s Gunner Mulligan (18:40) placed 14th and MWP’s David Martinez (18:47) earned 15th place.

Mossyrock’s Gerardo Salgado (19:23) finished in 19th place and teammate Charlie Paz-Tapia (19:37) earned 22nd place.

Adna’s Matthew Scheuber (19:44) finished 23rd and Napavine’s Caleb Perz Stewart (19:50) was the highest finisher for the Tigers in 26th place.

In the girls race, Mossyrock’s Sarah Lovan was the highest local finisher with a time of 20:36. Adna’s Lauryn Apperson (22:00) finished in seventh place and Toledo’s Greenlee Clark (23:04) earned eighth place.

MWP’s Kaylen Collette (23:28) finished in ninth place and teammate Elexcious Hampton (23:45) rounded out the top 10 in 10th place.

Rainier won the girls team title with 23 points. Toledo took second as a team with 60 points and Adna finished third with 67 points.

Toledo’s Ashley White (24:26) placed 13th and teammate Heather Fenison (24:43) took 16th place.

MWP’s Jaiden Linder (24:44) placed 17th. Samantha Conner (25:04) was the highest finisher for the Loggers in 19th place and teammate Renate Prazak (25:22) finished 20th.



Adna’s Haileigh Brooks (25:45) finished 23rd and teammate Meili Wolf (26:14) placed 25th. Campbell Schultz (26:09) placed 24th for the Vikings.

The runners will compete next at the District 4 1B/2B race in Onalaska on Saturday, Oct. 27, with a trip to state on the line.

Snyder Fourth, Hart 13th for Beavers at League Championships

MONTESANO — Tenino’s Katie Snyder finished fourth and Drew Hart finished 13th as the highest finishers for the Beavers in the 1A Evergreen Championship cross country race here on Thursday.

Snyder finished the race in 22 minutes, 52 seconds. Teammate Claire Scibelli finished ninth in 25:06.

Hoquiam’s Valerie Roloff won the race with a time of 21:53.

Kaylee Reddekopp (30:59) finished 13th and Alexandra Doig (34:29) placed 14th for the Beavers.

In the boys race, Hart completed the race in 19:57. Teammate Braxton Williams (20:08) finished right behind Hart in 14th.

Tenino’s Harley Whitaker (21:09) finished in 18th place and Clayton Oldfield (21:28) took 19th place.

Tenino will race next at the District 4 1A/2A Championships at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland on Thursday.
