Saturday Sports Update: District Baseball, NWAC Softball

Stuff happened today! Stories will be posted this evening and tomorrow, but here’s the quick breakdown of local baseball action.

In the District 4 2A Baseball Tournament, W.F. West lost to Black Hills, 7-6, as the Wolves got a game-winning single from Ty Warren to head to the regional playoffs for the first time in school history. W.F. West had defeated Woodland, 6-5, in the consolation semifinals to reach the third/fourth place game, and finished the season with a 12-12 record.

In the District 4 2B Baseball Tournament, Pe Ell-Willapa Valley beat Napavine 8-7 in a tight championship game, with Trevor Ritzman taking over with an 8-6 lead with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to get the final two outs and seal the win. PWV will stay in Mossyrock for regionals and play on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Life Christian, which beat Toutle Lake 11-10 in eight innings in Saturday’s fifth/sixth place District 4 game.

Napavine will head to Anacortes for regionals and will face Lake Roosevelt, No. 5 team out of District 5/6, on Saturday.



Toledo beat Adna, 4-3, in 10 innings in the third/fourth place game, with Toledo scoring in the top of the tenth on a walk to Grant McEwen, who wound up on third after a sacrifice bunt and scored on a bunt by Austin Eaton. Jackson Kuzminsky then took over for Toledo and retired the side in the tenth for the win.

Toledo, the No. 3 seed out of District 4, will play Wilbur-Creston at 10 a.m. in Mossyrock on Saturday. Adna, the No. 4 seed, will play at Daniels Field in Anacortes against District 1 No. 1 seed La Conner at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

In the NWAC Softball Championships at Portland’s Delta Park, Centralia College’s season came to an end with a 14-7 loss to Lower Columbia in the consolation bracket. Abby Slorey went 3 for 4 for Centralia with an RBI, and Kierstin Smith and Alexa McDaniel each had two hits.

Morton-White Pass product Ashley Kelly went 2 for 4 for Lower Columbia with a home run, a double and 5 RBIs.
