Saturday's Wrestling: Napavine-Onalaska Place Three at Kittitas Coyote Classic

KITTITAS — Napavine-Onalaska had three wrestlers place in at the Kittitas Coyote Classic wrestling tournament here on Saturday.

Napavine’s Sydney Burdick finished second at 135 pounds. Onalaska’s Kolby Mozingo placed third at 132 pounds and Napavine’s Grant Bennett earned fourth place at 195 pounds.

Napavine-Onalaska are on the mats again on Thursday at the Wahkiakum Mix & Match in Cathlamet.

Centralia’s Gaspar, Hylton Earn Titles at Lumberjack Classic

LONGVIEW — Centralia’s Juan Gaspar (113 pounds) and Caleb Hylton (160 pounds) each won the tournament title at the Lumberjack Classic wrestling tournament here on Saturday.

Justin Lake (145) finished second and Alex Hicks-Avron (120) placed third for the Tigers.

Eddie Matias (126) finished fifth and Porter Harris (120), Zach Regar (152), Trevor Richey (152), Aiden Goodrich (195) and Austin Lucht (195) placed co-fifth for the Tigers.



“We competed better this week. Our guys made their weights for the most part and competed better,” Centralia coach Scott Phillips said. “Juan Gaspar started off a little slow but ended up wrestling really well in the semifinals and in the finals while winning a tournament title. We are looking forward to competing well in the postseason.”

Centralia hosts W.F. West on Wednesday in a Swamp Cup wrestling showdown.

Adna Places Four at Justin Norton Memorial Tournament

RAINIER — Adna had four wrestlers place at the Justin Norton Memorial Tournament here on Saturday.

Ashton Dowell was the champion at 170 pounds. Matthew Slape (160) and Lucas Ashley (152) each finished second for the Pirates and Tristan Ridley (132) earned fifth place.

“Lucas is wrestling down from 160 for the first time this year and he wrestled better than he has all season,” Adna coach Craig Ferrier said. “Both Lucas and Matthew wrestled defending state champs in the finals. They both wrestled great matches, but both came up just short. Ashton also wrestled fairly well on his way to the championship.”

Adna travels to Life Christian on Thursday for a league match.
