Saturday's Boys Basketball: Onalaska Crushes Ocosta

ONALASKA — The Loggers scored at least 20 points in three quarters to cruise to a 91-47 win over Ocosta in a non-league boys basketball game here on Saturday night.

Carter Whitehead led the Loggers with 24 points. Ashton Haight recorded 16 points and Kayden Allison and Alex Frazier each scored 10 points.

Onalaska shot 50 percent from the field while the Wildcats shot just 28 percent from the field.

“I thought we were pretty good. I’m disappointed in our defense in the second quarter,” Onalaska coach Wayne Nelson said. “Our guys played real hard. We handled the ball pretty well, our shot selection was good.”

Onalaska led 23-5 after one quarter. The second quarter was closer, but the Loggers went into the break up 42-23.

The second half was all Loggers, as they outscored the Wildcats 49-29 to earn the victory.

Onalaska (1-1) hosts Wahkiakum on Tuesday in a non-league game.

Oakville Drops Opener to Lake Crescent

JOYCE — Oakville’s Jacob Ristvet scored 17 points but it wasn’t enough as Lake Crescent won 32-25 in a non-league boys basketball match here on Saturday.

Ristvet hit five 3-pointers to account for 15 of his 17 points. Nathan Boyd grabbed seven rebounds and added two points.

Both teams struggled for the first three quarters, as Lake Crescent led 10-4 after one quarter and the team’s combined to score eight points in the second quarter, with the Loggers leading 15-7 at halftime.



The team’s scored seven points combined in the third quarter with the Loggers retaining a 19-10 lead after three. Oakville scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and had a chance to take the lead with a minute left, but it didn’t fall as Lake Crescent held on for the win.

“I thought our defense wasn’t too good,” Oakville coach Maxx Waring said. “Offensively, we looked much better than the jamboree and the scrimmage. We had a lot of open shots, just missed a lot of open shots.”

Oakville (0-1) hosts Rainier Christian on Monday in a non-league game.

Toledo Wins Tipoff Classic

FRIDAY HARBOR — Toledo won the Tipoff Classic boys basketball tournament after defeating Vashon Island 44-36 here on Saturday.

Toledo’s Fano Arceo-Hansen scored 14 points and Andreas Malunat added 13 points. The Indians shot 43 percent from the field while Vashon Island shot just 31 percent.

The first half was close as the Indians led just 21-19 at the break. Vashon Island gained some momentum in the third quarter and took a 29-28 lead into the final quarter.

Toledo found their scoring touch in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points to outlast the Pirates for the win.

“We aren’t going to break any scoring records, but we held them under 40. Our defense was solid, forcing TOs and things and rebounding,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said. “They were big, physical inside. I’m proud of our chemistry. Our guys are playing together and not quitting and all that kind of stuff.”

Toledo (2-0) hosts Winlock on Tuesday in a non-league game.
