ROCHESTER — The Warriors had a few nice performances, but forfeits hurt in dual-meet losses to Forks (48-26) and Hoquiam (59-25) here Wednesday.

Rochester lost four matches via forfeit against Forks, and three more against Hoquiam in the SWW 1A League Evergreen Division event.

“We wrestled pretty well against Forks,” Rochester coach Justin Eastman said. “They just collected a few more pins, which in the end decided the final score.”

Rochester had two forfeit wins of its own, along with Riley Deorge winning 15-5 at 140 lbs., Jordan Davis winning at 152 (8-2), and Tyler Holweger, at 189, winning a major decision over Erik Camacho, 14-2. Zach Bickel won 4-0 over Gavin Castanedo at 215 to pick up Warrior of the Match honors.

“Riley Deorge and Zach Bickel really stepped it up tonight,” Eastman said. “They just came out and grinded for 6 minutes, showing a little more conditioning than their opponents.”

Also against Forks, Liezl Mondoc ran her record to 8-0 by taking down Nicole Wade five times before a second-round pin at 135 to get Warrior of the Match honors on the girls side.

In the Hoquiam loss, Davis (152), Jacob Lambert (160) and Holweger (189) all won via pin.

“It is nice to see a freshman show no quit out there,” Eastman said of Lambert. “He fell behind and was able to get it together and took the kid right to his back and stuck him.”

The Warrior girls wrestle at Elma today, while the boys are at the Grays Harbor Invite on Saturday.
