2B VB: Tigers Top MWP on Senior Night

    NAPAVINE — Morton-White Pass had the early advantage, but Napavine found its groove in Game 3 here Wednesday for a five-game Central 2B League win on senior night.

    The Timberwolves won the first two games 25-14 and 25-22, but the Tigers stormed back to win the final three 25-22, 26-24 and 19-17.

    “We struggled the first two games. We came out a little rough,” Napavine coach Monica Dailey said. “We tried a new lineup tonight, and the first two games it took a little bit to get going. Once we got going, the girls were able to pull things together and focus together.”

    Cassidy Boles had 32 assists, McKenna Hoyt had 18 kills and eight stuff-blocks, Kristin Hickey served 100 percent with 25 digs and 10 kills, and Stephanee Stedham had 17 digs and nine kills for the Tigers. It was the final home game for Tiger seniors Stedham and Hoyt.

    Chelbi Eveland had 19 kills, Ashley Kelly notched 12 kills and hit all 12 of her serves, Madison King served 24 for 24, with 22 assists, and Whitney Elledge had 13 assists and served 20 for 20 for Morton-White Pass.

    “We played good,” MWP coach Tammy Kelly said. “We played really good defense, and we passed well on serve-receive.”

    Napavine (7-7) and Morton-White Pass (4-10) both enter the District IV 2B Volleyball Tournament on Monday.

Adna 3, Winlock 0

    WINLOCK — The Cardinals came close in Game 2, but Central 2B League champion Adna was too much here Wednesday night, putting away Winlock 25-12, 25-20 and 25-3.

    Oralea Hazlett served 6 of 7, and Rachel Archer served 7-8 for the Cardinals. It was the final match for Cardinal seniors Chelsey Weinert, Denise Wyman, Megan Merrill, Alyssa Huezo, and Hazlett.

    “It’s a really great group of kids to say goodbye to,” Winlock coach Sara Hadaller said.

    Winlock finishes the year at 0-14, while Adna (13-1) will take a top seed into — and host — the District IV 2B Volleyball Tournament, which begins on Monday.

 



Pe Ell 3, Mossyrock 1

    MOSSYROCK — The Vikings came out strong in the first game, but Pe Ell picked it up and earned a 3-1 win — 14-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-14 — here Wednesday in Central 2B League volleyball action.

    “We played exceptionally well in the first game,” Mossyrock coach Alex Nelson said. “That’s probably the best we’ve played all season, or with the most confidence, at least.”

    Megan Rankin served 100 percent and led the Vikings in kills, while Calli Hensch added four kills. Autumn Moorcroft and Maria Ortiz were both cited for their passing.

    Alissa Brooks-Johnson, Nelson said, played a phenomenal game for Pe Ell. The junior finished with 19 kills, 20 solo blocks and four assisted blocks.

    “She just had a great night,” Nelson said.

    Amanda Woods was 18 of 19 serving with two aces, while also garnering 12 digs and doling out 15 assists.

    Amber Arrington dished out 13 assists and had 7 digs while going 10-11 from the service stripe. Kayla Capps had 11 assists and was 22-24 serving with four aces, while Taylor Ratkie chipped in with 14 digs.

    “After that first game we played pretty well,” Pe Ell coach Kabria Makaiwi-Amacher said. “It was definitely a game we wanted to win.”

    It was the final home game for Mossyrock’s Liz Willis.

    Mossyrock will play at Willapa Valley, against Naselle, on Saturday in a pigtail game. The winner will enter the District IV 2B Volleyball Tournament.

    Note: Wahkiakum’s win over Toutle Lake in four games Wednesday put Pe Ell (11-3, 12-3 overall) and the Mules in a tie for second place in the C2BL standings. The No. 2 team will host first-round district tournament games. Athletic directors from the respective schools are expected to flip a coin for second place this morning to determine whether districts will be played in Pe Ell or Cathlamet.
